\nI hope this reply finds you doing well. Your question is a great one for us to remember when working with organizations. We run into this situation quite often in schools that lose the big picture! If we can keep the purpose in the fore-front by making sure we are clear and have good questions to extend our clients understanding of purpose, then we can help their focus and commitment. I really like the MENTAL MODEL on page 37. I think it would be beneficial to help our leaders develop capacity to aid their schools to focus on purpose and commitment.

Resistance is a part of our job. We deal with it daily on many levels. LEAs, principals, reading coaches, and teachers deal with resistance as well. There are many people who are satisfied with the status quo. For one thing, most people have to see, understand, and process the "need" for change before they will really undertake it. We might get alot of lip service & agreements when we go somewhere or present something, but once we leave, many people just go on about their business as if nothing was ever discussed. So it goes back to the idea of presenting the case, making the plea, building the purpose. All of that takes time, human energy (as our book referenced), patience, and skill.
